My husband andI rescued a cat today from an awful family! She is pregnant. I know i have no business taking her without knowing what i am doing, but i just could not leave her where she was. So with that comes a few questions. I feel prepared to know what to do when the kittens come (i did a lot of research today, when we got her home and cleaned up.) but what I’m wondering is when! What stage/week of pregnancy is a cat when u can actually see its stomach moving where the kittens are moving? She was lying on my bed earlier on her side and it looked like a little alien was trying to get out of her stomach. She has small black scabs around some of her nipples, why? Also is there any way to tell how many she will have. i want to make sure i have safe homes for the kittens, but not sure how many to set up.

HELP! I need to know about breeding cats?
Mr. Smith is a pure-breed British Shorthair and recently a guy claiming to be a “Professional Cat Breeder” asked if he could use him to breed pure-breed British Shorthairs. At first I refused but later on he started pleading and claiming that this way a dying breed etc.
I really didn’t buy it at first but… I dunno he just convinced me when he said that I can monitor every step of the breeding in person and I just visited their “cat farm” sort of thing. I must say its very sterile and pet friendly but I still don’t trust the guy so I want to know EVERYTHING about mating cats like;
how long it takes?
what qualities should I look while confirming the female mate?
how will I know if the male or the female is ready?
what happens if the male has never met the female before?
what are things that MUST not be skipped and thing that MUST be avoided?
or a PROCEDURE of pre-mating, during mating and post-mating?
PLEASE help me because I want to know everything about this!!!

That’s COMPLETE BS that the British Shorthair is a “dying breed” so this is clearly some greedy backyward breeder just out to make money. And how would you, someone completely clueless to breeding, have an unaltered male, pedigreed, SHOW QUALITY British Shorthair? You DON’T. If this cat is a British Shorthair it’s clearly not a show quality one that you have been giving breeding rights to so it should NOT be bred. Breeders don’t just hand over unaltered show quality cats to anyone.
And guess what? If you don’t have breeding rights, the pedigreed and this cat isn’t show quality NO breeder with a female unaltered show quality cat will ALLOW your cat to mate with it.
Leave breeding to those doing so for the RIGHT reasons – for the love of and to better the breed. If you want more kittens – go to a shelter and ADOPT SOME. It would be INCREDIBLY selfish of you to breed your cat.

Hi All,
I just got a new ragdoll kitten and I have a couple of questions about her coloring. I believe she is a tortie – is this correct? I’ve also heard someone call her a blue cream so I’m confused. Her picture can be found here http://www.flickr.com/photos/35495153@N03/.
Also, does anyone know of a website that has pictures posted of what ragdolls look like one they have fully matured? I know she won’t have her full color until she’s 2-3 years old but I kind of wanted an idea of what she will look like.

I do not breed Ragdolls, but have listed a friend’s site above. I have bred Balinese for 36 years & am familiar w/ the color genetics.
A red/flame father bred to a “standard color” female… All female offspring will be “torties”. Tortie can be sometimes be used as a generic term, just like “kleenex”. Torties come in several colors:
Seal-Tortie (Black & Red)
Chocolate-Tortie
Blue-Cream (dilute of Seal-Tortie… Gray & Cream)
Lilac-Cream (dilute of Chocolate-Tortie)
There are also Tortie Lynx Points in all of the above colors.
The photo of your cat… W/ the white blaze, I could not be 100% certain what her background color was. The splash by her eye does appear gray which would make her a blue-cream or a blue-tortie or a dilute tortie – depending on the registry terminology.
